Koreatown (K-Town) Expedition: A Century of Fusion
Experience the high-energy, historic enclave that holds the largest concentration of Koreans outside of Seoul. We will launch our tour by exploring the neighborhood's mid-century architecture and checking out historic landmarks like the Korean Pavilion (Daemiwun). We will navigate through bustling traditional plazas and minority-owned specialty shops, from traditional skincare boutiques to Korean stationery stores. Our lunch stop features a masterclass in Korean culinary hospitality at an authentic family-run restaurant (tasting traditional Banchan, Bibimbap, or K-BBQ). We will close the expedition in a local public square, sipping barley tea and engaging with local residents in a discussion about how K-Town beautifully fuses historic Korean customs with contemporary California culture.
Historic Filipinotown (HiFi) Expedition-The Living Jeepney Route
Uncover the powerful history of the Filipino-American community in one of LA’s most historic cultural districts. We will begin at the monumental Gintong Kasaysayan, Gintong Pamana mural—the largest Filipino-American glorious history mural in the US. Our walking tour will guide you past neighborhood markers and local micro-businesses, including legacy bakeries famous for Ube pastries and Pan de Sal. We will visit a community garden to learn about indigenous Philippine plants and agricultural traditions. For lunch, we will experience a traditional Kamayan or a curated family-style feast of Chicken Adobo, Sinigang, and Halo-Halo. We will wrap up our expedition at a local community center for an open discussion with community organizers about heritage preservation and neighborhood revitalization.
Little Ethiopia Expedition: The Golden Thread of Africa
Step into the most concentrated cultural block in Los Angeles, where East African traditions thrive along a vibrant stretch of Fairfax Avenue. Our expedition starts with an introduction to the neighborhood’s history, followed by visits to local boutiques specializing in traditional hand-woven Ethiopian clothing and cultural art. We will explore family-run markets importing sacred incense and rare spices like Berbere directly from Addis Ababa. We will then share a communal feast, enjoying an authentic Injera platter (sourdough flatbread topped with rich stews), traditionally eaten with your hands from a shared plate. The journey culminates in a sacred, sensory Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony featuring live bean roasting, followed by a roundtable discussion with community leaders on cultural diplomacy.
